Christ Connect - A Weekly Update from Central Lutheran Church, Elk River, MN

All Saints Sunday

On All Saints Sunday, we gather with a deep sense of gratitude and grief as we remember those who have gone before us. How appropriate to hear the story of Noah's Ark. There is no security for Noah anywhere but in the Ark. No wonder the ark is featured in Christian thinking as a symbol of salvation in Christ, and as a picture of God's church.

The first letter of Peter uses the salvation through water at the time of the Flood as a picture of the water baptism. Baptism into Christ is baptism into community. It was with his family that Noah went into the ark. The picture for us is belonging to the Christian church. As you remember your loved ones this Sunday, I hope you will be able to join your sisters and brothers in Christ at Central.

When the final enemy death visits, it might seem that evil triumphs. BUT, we know that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, neither life nor death. (Romans 8:38-39) In the midst of the brokenness of this world, God provides an ark of security and safety.
