Value Others Through Service
For me, this means more than ushering at church or assisting in communion. After accepting Christ, it becomes a natural change that we seek ways in all aspects of our life to assist others while spreading the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
It means treasuring the time we have with friends and family. It means noticing the people around us and the issues they face and seeking ways to respond to those needs.
There are many ways in our daily lives that we can touch others and make a difference. Simple things like making eye contact with people and smiling at them, giving the right of way to another driver when they are pushing to get ahead of you, assisting a neighbor with their lawn, etc. But mainly being there for people willing to listen and share their concerns and problems.
Our church offers many opportunities to assist others. Every week we are told of opportunities. I have always been moved by the dedication of the people that volunteer at the church creating and serving meals, teaching classes, driving bus, visiting the sick and shut ins etc. This dedication adds to the life and growth of our mission of "Making Jesus Known".
One of the ministries I am involved in is the Pilot Outreach program at the Sherburne County Jail. Each Tuesday about six men meet there and are assigned "pods" to meet in. We meet for about an hour and fifteen minutes with any inmates that want to attend. It amazes me how much faith many of these inmates have.
God is working in this world and the world desperately needs him. May God's love and peace surround each of you and strengthen your commitment to his calling..
Sponsoring a child through Central provides education, school uniforms, supplies and food for orphans and semi-orphans in our sister congregations of Kibena and Matingajola in Southern Tanzania.
Each week people meet together for a meal, a talk on topics such as "Who is Jesus?", "Why Did Jesus Die?", "How Can I be Sure of My Faith?", and "Does God Still Heal Today?" , followed by small group interaction. There is an optional one-day retreat, which focuses on the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
