Welcome Winston Peterson, Director of Music Ministry PDF Print E-mail
2011_Winston_PetersonMy hope in coming to Central Lutheran in Elk River is that the Lord will show us the  great things He has in store for us in our worship journey together as we grow in our relationship with one another and Him. Jesus and I have been best friends since my college days, and I have known about Him growing up in a Christ-centered home. He called forth musical gifts in me early on, which I developed at the University of MN School of Music. He also called forth ministry and leadership skills in the previous congregations I served in adult and children’s music and worship.

Worship is the language of the heart to express our love to God. God expressed His love into my heart and birthed a passion in me for serving Him. It’s not about the music first, and then Jesus. Serving in music and worship is all about my relationship with Jesus Christ, and music is the tool in my hand He gave to me to serve Him with. Ministry naturally flows out of my relationship with him, just as ministry naturally flows out of our relationship with each other as his people. Without him, I am nothing. Christ is my all. The life I now live, I live by the faith of the Son of God. It wouldn’t have mattered if I would have become an auto mechanic, He would have made that honorable vocation a ministry, because of our relationship. I strive to show forth His excellencies in music and worship to give honor and glory to Christ and draw people to Him. He must increase, I must decrease. I pray this may be evident in my ministry at CLC.

The Lord will honor CLC’s ministry with His blessing because it lifts up the Bible as his true Word, and I am grateful to be aligned with you in ministry, as is my wife, Joanne. We have been married for 30 years and have five children—three daughters and two sons. One daughter is married, four are through college, and our youngest just started college this fall.

Favorite foods? Anything Joanne cooks! Favorite movie? Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Star Wars. Favorite motorcycle? Old Triumphs. Too many favorite songs to pick one. Other interests include being with Joanne and my family, fishing, woodworking, listening to the Twins, Vikings and Gopher games, Home Depot and Menards “dates,” but most of all I am thankful for the central passion of my life which is to honor and serve our great God through worship. His calling is a gracious gift He uses to complete me in ways that all of the other interests together cannot satisfy. I am grateful to be part of the staff team at Central Lutheran! Please come and introduce yourself to me—I’d love to get to know you!
