Dear Central Family,
It's been ten years!
At 8:48 on Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, the peace and security of our nation was shattered by terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 innocent people. A Boeing bullet hit the bulls-eye of our nation's economic heart, the Twin Towers; a Boeing bullet hit the bulls-eye of our nation's military heart, the Pentagon; and a Boeing bullet missed the bulls-eye of our nations political heart, but the heroism of this miss cost 45 lives in the fields of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Arising from the ashes of that tragedy came a remarkable spirit of unity, compassion and determination that should not be forgotten, just as we will never forget those who were lost and injured on that day, and those respondents who heroically conducted the rescue and recovery effort in the days, weeks and months following September 11, 2001.
In observance of the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks which killed citizens from 92 different nations, we the people of Central Lutheran will be gathering for 9/11 REMEMBRANCE WORSHIP SERVICES on Sunday, September 11 at 8:15, 9:30 and 11:00 AM. The honor of your presence is requested as we gather at ground zero - the foot of the Cross. In preparation for our worship I ask that you take some time to prayerfully reflect on Psalm 46 and 2 Chronicles 7:12-16. May the Spirit of God be present in such a way that each member of the body of Central will "humble themselves, and pray and seek the Lord's face, and turn from our wicked ways." At some time in the near future I encourage you to consider setting aside a day in your life for fasting and prayer on behalf of our nation so that we and many others will turn to the Lord in the days, weeks, months and years to come.
Could it be that for too long we have put our trust in economic prosperity, military might and political power? As we remember the horrific evil that occurred ten years ago we know that "heaven and earth will pass away" BUT do we know that the WORD OF GOD will remain forever?
