Building A Sending ChurchWhat does it mean to be “Building a Sending Church?” A team of seven from Central are spending this week discovering what that means for them as individuals and what it means as part of Odyssey 2010. This Boot Camp crew is in Dallas, Texas, for intensive training in church planting and developing new worship communities. Upon their return, team leader, Bjorn Dixon, will preach this Sunday on Romans 10:14-15; How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

This passage seems to be linked together like a chain. If we look at the text in reverse, we find it states people cannot hear saving faith without a preacher. But the call to proclaim the truth of Christ has been given to everyone who trusts in Christ. The Great Commission commands us to ‘Go, make disciples, baptize and teach’ (Matt. 28:19). From the divine point of view ‘preachers’ are not the exclusive speakers about God. We all must take God’s great message of salvation to others so they can respond to the Good News. If people have not heard the proclamation of the Gospel they cannot believe it; if they have not believed it they are not in a position to call upon the name of the Lord for salvation.

Is God nudging you to take a part in making His message known in our communities? How will loved ones and neighbors hear unless someone tells them? I hope to see you in church this Sunday as we are encouraged by one another to act on the truth that faith comes out of what is heard and what is heard comes through the Word about Christ and we all play a part in sharing that Word about Christ!
